The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has prepared a budget of nearly 250 million dollars to carry out the upcoming elections. This amount is currently under review at the government level. The legal framework for the electoral consultations is ready, and the action plan is available. However, the budget remains pending, Le Nouvelliste learned from sources close to the matter on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
“The CEP has drawn up a budget of 250 million dollars. This is not an acceptable budget,” a government source said. Other countries organize elections with more limited means. A source within the Provisional Electoral Council, contacted by Le Nouvelliste, explained that the electoral body is not yet in a position to indicate the amount of the operational budget. “We had put forward an amount for the election budget during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office last Monday. But we cannot provide the figure since discussions are ongoing. There will be another meeting in the coming days,” the source told Le Nouvelliste.
