At least 25 people lost their lives on Saturday, April 11, 2026, during a festive activity at the Citadelle Henri, located in the heights of the commune of Milot, following a crowd surge. This toll, updated and revised downward, was confirmed by the mayor of Milot, Wesner Joseph, in an interview with Le Nouvelliste. On Saturday afternoon, amid the confusion of the first hours after the tragedy, authorities had reported at least thirty deaths before revising the figure.
“We received 13 bodies at the Sacré-Cœur Hospital in Milot and recovered 12 others at the Citadel. Around thirty injured people are also being treated at the hospital,” the mayor specified. The same toll was also reported by the Haitian National Police, which announced the opening of an investigation.
