In the past, each person’s network consisted of their family circle, their group of friends, their business or work relationships. A larger network extended to people from the same neighborhood, the same school, the same profession, living in the same city and, more rarely, from the same geographical region or the same country.

It took time to build a network, to strengthen it, to expand it.
