Starting May 10, the price of a gallon of gasoil (diesel) will drop from 850 gourdes to 825 gourdes, while the price of a gallon of gasoline will decrease from 725 gourdes to 700 gourdes. The price of kerosene, meanwhile, will remain fixed at 845 gourdes. This government decision follows the recommendation made on Friday, May 8, by the Advisory Council for Monitoring the Petroleum Market to reduce the price of both gasoline and diesel by 25 gourdes per gallon, “taking into account fluctuations in petroleum product prices on the international market.”
According to the Council’s spokesperson, Jacques Anderson Desroches, the calculated price of diesel declined with a variation of 5.5%, while gasoline experienced a 21% increase. The variation in diesel prices compared to the rates currently in effect generated a surplus of 32 gourdes per gallon, whereas the gasoline variation caused a revenue loss of 112 gourdes per gallon. Kerosene, for its part, recorded a slight increase, with a variation of less than 1%.
