Just days before the 2026 World Cup, singer Mario de Volcy unveils an opus aimed at supporting the Grenadiers’ participation in this major celebration of global sports. The track, titled Grenadye mache pran yo, is a successful blend of Haitian meringue, rabòday, and other sounds native to Haiti, along with a few musical influences from around the world. It is an energetic composition, combining the rhythm of a popular celebration with patriotic fervor. Altogether, according to its author, the combination creates an original rhythm.
The song opens with the spelling out of H-A-I-T-I. Lasting nearly three minutes, a large portion of the track is driven by the phrase “N ap mache pran yo,” repeated in a unifying chorus. The Haitian flavor of the opus becomes even more pronounced in the final seconds of the song, during which rara fully takes over and leaves the listener under its dancing spell. It is impossible to listen to it without at least nodding along, so deeply is the song carried by rhythms rooted in Haitian musical identity.
