A real showdown has emerged between the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and the Prime Minister’s Office over the appointment of Uder Antoine as Director General of the electoral institution. As soon as he was appointed, the CEP members adopted a resolution dismissing him and prohibiting him from entering his office at the Council.

For more than two months, Uder Antoine had served as Executive Director of the Electoral Council. He had been appointed without significant difficulty by the CEP members and maintained very good relations with the electoral advisers. He had notably worked on proposals for the electoral budget and the draft electoral decree. However, his appointment by the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, changed everything.
