After this week’s public confrontations between the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and the Prime Minister’s Office, tensions are beginning to ease, albeit cautiously. Jacques Desrosiers and Alix Didier Fils-Aimé met on Friday.

While the government prevailed by publishing the electoral decree despite the CEP’s opposition and by proceeding with the installation of its Director General, channels of dialogue now appear to be reopening. According to information gathered by Le Nouvelliste, the Prime Minister and the President of the CEP met on Friday. The two officials agreed to continue discussions with the other electoral advisers in order to address the main points of contention that continue to poison relations between the two institutions.
