“The most glaring problem we had with it (the CPT) was its deeply entrenched criminal corruption. A second problem was its predatory political nature: its inability to govern and its role in fueling chaos,” said Henry T. Wooster, who was recently appointed U.S. Ambassador to Kenya by the Trump administration, in an exclusive interview with Le Nouvelliste.
“I could go on and on. Perhaps the better question would have been: What problem didn't we have with the CPT?” added the American diplomat, whose government sanctioned certain members of the CPT and revoked their visas. The Trump administration also deployed warships to Port-au-Prince Bay ahead of February 7, 2026, in order to deter any attempt to interfere with the transfer of power to Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, who is now an all-powerful Prime Minister with no institutional counterweight.
