Since the end of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT)'s mandate and Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé's assumption of power—with the backing of the international community—followed by the signing of the National Pact for Stability and the Organization of Elections last February, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and the government have continued to stall over the electoral decree, the election budget, and the electoral calendar. Four months later, the electoral process has made little progress.
The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and the government appear to have settled into this state of inertia regarding the electoral process. Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, who took office as Prime Minister on November 11, 2024, and the Provisional Electoral Council, appointed on September 20, 2024, have now accumulated more than a year and a half of working together. It is not as though the electoral advisers and the Prime Minister barely know one another. Yet that is the impression they continue to give the country.
