The United States of America commemorates the 250th anniversary of its Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026. Happy Independence Day and continued success to the American people, their leaders, and to a country that Haitians admire just as much as they sometimes love to criticize.

Relations between the two countries date back to well before the legal existence of the two oldest independent nations in the Americas. Because of British colonization in what became the United States and French colonization in Saint-Domingue—the future Haiti—ties had long existed between the mainland and the peninsula.
