Holding an election with 316 officially recognized and legally registered political parties could make the process considerably more complex for both the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and voters. The CEP is therefore encouraging party leaders to form coalitions, and the electoral decree provides a series of financial incentives to promote such alliances.
After publishing the list of the 316 accredited political parties on Thursday, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) announced that it will proceed with the registration of political party groups from Monday, July 13, through Friday, July 17, 2026, and the registration of coalitions of political party groups from Wednesday, July 22, through Monday, July 27, 2026, in accordance with the provisions of Article 128 of the June 2, 2026 Electoral Decree.
