Organized this year around the theme “Research in the Service of Development: Optimizing Scientific Production and Use,” the second edition of the Scientific Days, held on July 23 and 24 at the Karibe Convention Center and organized by the FRD-BRH—the BRH Fund for Research and Development—brought together many members of the scientific and academic communities, as well as entrepreneurs from several sectors of activity. Created with the objective of making use of and promoting scientific research conducted locally, the event paves the way for in-depth reflection on placing scientific research at the center of policies aimed at reviving the national economy.
During these Scientific Days, participants discovered projects funded by the FRD-BRH that are intended to contribute to development and innovation in the fields of agriculture, health, education, the environment, technology, climate change and mobile payments. The projects were presented through short videos shown on screens installed at the Karibe, where the event was held. Among them were: “Production of a Biopesticide to Combat Coconut Pests and Aflatoxins in Southern Haiti,” with agronomist Junior Aristil; “Nostalgia for Traditional Knowledge in Times of Natural Disaster in Haiti,” with professor and doctor of sociology Jerry Michel; “Application of Artificial Intelligence to Transform Haitian Agriculture (AIPAGRI),” with agricultural engineer Jacky Duvil; and “Mapping the Physical and Natural Resources of the North,” with Widgenia Ulysse. These are some of the projects receiving funding from the FRD.
