The 1,600 families who were living at the Office for the Protection of Citizens (OPC) site received resettlement assistance to find housing elsewhere. Le Nouvelliste visited the area to observe what has changed since their departure.
At the OPC site in Bourdon, the setting has changed since the departure of the internally displaced persons who had occupied the premises and the surrounding area. The makeshift shelters made of sheets and plastic tarps, as well as the sheet-metal shelters built directly on the sidewalk, have disappeared from the landscape. The same is true of the sanitary facilities installed nearby. The usual coming and going that brought the area to life has also disappeared.
