In July 2026, nearly a year after its creation by the United Nations Security Council, the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) finally signed the necessary agreements with the Haitian state to provide a legal framework for its operations on the ground.

Jack Christofides, the special representative appointed to lead the GSF, made the announcement on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, while speaking at a Sectoral Roundtable on Security organized by the Center for Analysis and Research in Human Rights (CARDH).
