With the end of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians, some are beginning to turn to other countries in the Americas, particularly Canada, the United States’ northern neighbor. Appearing on Panel Magik on Monday, August 4, 2026, immigration attorney Claude Junior Charles reviewed the various immigration programs available to Haitians wishing to settle in this North American country, which already has a large Haitian community.

“There are several statuses that a foreign national can have in Canada,” Charles explained. Among them, he cited visitor status, which he described as “the simplest option.” “If someone wishes to travel to Canada, they can apply for a visa, provided they have received an invitation to an activity requiring a visa,” the attorney explained, also mentioning work visas and study permits as other pathways to entering Canadian territory.
