The Support Group for Returnees and Refugees (GARR) is outraged by the situation of Haitian migrants targeted by various deportation measures in several countries across the Americas, particularly nationals who benefited from Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and have been left without any legal immigration status since July 27. During a press conference held at its offices on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the organization’s officials sounded the alarm about the negative effects of this decision on the country, which, according to them, is not prepared to receive its nationals in the event of mass deportations.
“The GARR is firm in its position: the conditions are not in place to receive approximately half a million Haitians from the United States with dignity as part of the announced mass deportation plan,” said Stenley Orbruth Doriscar, GARR’s communications officer. “Many TPS beneficiaries left the country because of poor living conditions or threats to their lives. This decision therefore risks exposing them to the same situation they fled,” he added.
