The Secretary General of the OAS, Albert Ramdin, is expected in Port-au-Prince this Sunday as part of a “very high-level visit” that is expected to last three days, Le Nouvelliste learned from diplomatic sources on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. “Yes, he is expected in Port-au-Prince on Sunday. He is scheduled to leave on Wednesday. It will be a very high-level visit led by the Secretary General of the OAS. There will be representatives of CARICOM and other technical partners in the financial and justice sectors,” our source explained, stressing that the visit comes “somewhat as a prelude to the upcoming elections.”
Discussions are planned with sectoral ministries, the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP). A visit to the Gang Suppression Force is also planned “to assess the progress made,” our source said. On the sidelines of the 56th regular session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), held in Panama in June, Ramdin met with Haiti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Raina Forbin. According to a June 22 statement from the OAS Secretary General, there was a constructive exchange on the situation in Haiti and the outlook ahead. “Our discussion reaffirmed the importance of sustained, coordinated and concrete support for the Haitian people during this crucial period. Haiti’s transition must succeed in order to serve as a bridge toward restoring security, strengthening confidence in institutions, returning to constitutional order and holding credible, inclusive and peaceful elections,” the statement said.
