Thirteen people—six children and seven women—kidnapped last Sunday in Kenscoff have been released. The information was welcomed by UNICEF in a statement published on Friday, July 28, 2026. The organization also provided details on the circumstances that led to this positive outcome. “Among the children are three under the age of 2, one 7-year-old child and two teenage girls. UNICEF and community leaders supported efforts that contributed to their release, bringing several days of captivity to an end,” the statement reads.

“This release offers a rare moment of hope amid the violence threatening children in Haiti,” said Yannig Dussart, UNICEF Deputy Representative in Haiti. “The Kenscoff kidnapping was not an isolated incident, but another brutal reminder of the scale and frequency of attacks against children across the country.”
