Several journalists, including Clarens Siffoy and Odelyn Joseph, who work respectively for Agence France-Presse (AFP) and the Associated Press (AP), were physically assaulted on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in Kenscoff. The incident occurred as the press workers were attending the funerals of five people killed during the August 23 massacre. According to information obtained from witnesses, the journalists were attacked by relatives of the victims, in the presence of self-defense brigade members.
“We were verbally and then physically attacked at the Kenscoff cemetery. I was struck with sticks by people who were very angry. They decided to attack us just as we had decided to leave the area to calm their anger. They chased and hunted us down as if we were bandits,” reported Clarens Siffroy, an AFP photojournalist who also collaborates with Le Nouvelliste.
