The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin, is calling on the Haitian authorities and their international partners to accelerate preparations for the elections scheduled for December 13. Speaking before the organization’s Permanent Council on September 3, he notably emphasized voter registration, the issuance of national identification cards and the mobilization of resources for the process.

Albert Ramdin praised the work undertaken by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), the National Identification Office (ONI), the government and the other institutions involved in organizing the vote. However, discussions held with the CEP during the recent high-level interinstitutional mission to Haiti showed, according to him, that it was necessary to accelerate implementation of the different stages of the electoral calendar.
