Haiti’s general retirement system must evolve to better respond to changes in the labor market and the expectations of insured workers. Modernizing services, improving governance, ensuring financial sustainability and expanding coverage to workers excluded from the system are among the main issues at the National Forum on the Modernization and Consolidation of the General Retirement System, opened by the National Old-Age Insurance Office (ONA) on September 16, 2026, at the Karibe Hotel.
At the opening of the proceedings, ONA Director General Lovely François stressed the need to undertake an in-depth reform of the retirement system. She believes that this reform must be developed through dialogue bringing together the State, workers, employers, unions, socio-professional sectors, experts, universities, as well as national and international partners. “Our system must evolve,” she said, highlighting changes in the labor market, the weight of the informal economy and the new expectations of insured workers.
