Dérac, a locality in the first communal section of Dumas, in Fort-Liberté, celebrated its patron saint festival dedicated to the Holy Cross on September 13 and 14. For several days, large crowds marked the religious, cultural, and musical activities. Pilgrims, residents of the region, and music lovers from various backgrounds converged on this border locality, giving the celebration a dimension that went beyond its purely religious setting.
As it does every year at this time, Dérac came alive to the rhythm of its patron saint festival. This significant turnout once again highlights the tourism potential of the locality, which remains largely untapped. Located in the northern part of the Northeast, near the Haitian-Dominican border and Manzanillo Bay (Mancenille) in the Dominican Republic, Dérac has a historical and cultural heritage that could serve as a genuine driver of development for the population.
