The mayor of St-Michel de l’Attalaye, Williamson Gaspard, is sounding the alarm over the threat that armed groups pose to his municipality and, more broadly, to several departments of the country. According to him, St-Michel de l’Attalaye’s geographical location makes it a strategic point whose fall could facilitate the advance of bandits toward the North, Upper Artibonite, and the Central Plateau.
Appearing on the program Panel Magik on Thursday, September 17, Williamson Gaspard stressed the municipality’s strategic importance, particularly because of its proximity to several localities. “Bordered by St-Raphaël, Dondon, Ennery, Maïssade, and Marmelade, the municipality of St-Michel is strategic for launching attacks on the North, Upper Artibonite, and the upper Central Plateau. If St-Michel de l’Attalaye falls, we can say that the bandits will be able to gain access to a large part of the country,” the mayor stated.
