“I would particularly like to thank the Mexican Secretariat of National Defense and the Haitian Ministry of Defense for their work in enabling 108 Haitian soldiers and six supervisors to travel to our country today to begin a demanding training process. I would also like to address you directly, the women and men who, in a few hours, will leave on this journey. Your departure for Mexico marks a new chapter in a cooperation built over the years and constitutes a very concrete expression of the trust that unites our two peoples,” said Carlos Imanol Belausteguigoitia Reyes, Director General for Central America and the Caribbean at the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs, stressing that the relationship between Mexico and Haiti has deep roots.
