It is 10 a.m. on September 21, 2026, when we are welcomed by the principal of Lycée Marie Jeanne, Yonisse Alusma. The institution, which for the past few months has been operating on the premises of Collège Sœurs de la Charité de Saint-Louis de Bourdon and Institution Sainte-Rose de Lima, is doing its best to cope with the challenges associated with this new school year. In the tree-lined schoolyard, dozens of benches are stacked in different corners while the students enjoy their break.

When operating at full capacity, the institution had two shifts: morning and evening. The facility, rebuilt following the January 12, 2010 earthquake, had more than 20 classrooms for approximately 4,000 students. Taken over by internally displaced people because of insecurity, the institution is still waiting for a true home of its own. According to the principal, with no better option, it moved to Unitech, which had provided it with 17 classrooms.
