The transition that began in July 2021, following the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, is becoming firmly entrenched. In terms of duration, it has nothing to envy a presidential term. Even after five years, the question remains: when will the transition end? This is no trivial question. Prime Minister Didier Fils-Aimé even chose to address it in his speech at the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
“This transition will end through the ballot box,” the head of government declared. The current electoral calendar schedules the first round of the presidential and legislative elections, as well as the popular ratification of the proposed constitutional amendments, for December 13, 2026. The second round of the legislative and presidential elections, along with local government elections, is scheduled for February 2, 2027.
