Sometimes, it seems that the United States, across all administrations, is doing everything to inspire the discontent they suffer from in Haiti. Their political leaders who question in the diaspora and on social media the degradation of their country’s image regarding their calamitous management of the Haitian file do not need long introspections to find the answers. Omnipresent and counterproductive, the U.S. and UN-made interventions (1994, 2004, and 2024) have ultimately led today to an ungovernable country, plagued by gang violence and rampant corruption, 'large-scale corruption'. With its ineffective judicial system and collapsed security apparatus, the democratization process inaugurated in 1986 resembles a bloody tragedy, a dreadful farce, a horror film. February 7, 1986, a tumultuous date where all the bubbling thoughts met in a Haiti that had just regained its freedom. The 'years of lead' (1957 – 1986) of dictatorship have unfortunately been succeeded by the 'dark ages' of the 'democracy' with catastrophic consequences.
With its corpses and destructions that serve no purpose, the chaotic democratization (promoted by the United States and friendly countries) is now cloaked in flamboyance. In fact, this morbid and twilight era describes a country in the process of putrefaction. Nothing could predict the catastrophic magnitude that the events of this much-desired and lauded post-authoritarian transition would take, promoted by the left, the diaspora, the independent press, and neoliberal West. While history begged them, after the dark years of Macoutism that our international partners ardently tolerated, to seize the democratic project to change their relations with the first independent black Republic (in vain?!), the Americans, as the tutelary power – it must be recognized without reservation or shame – continued (since the Occupation in 1915) the policy of big stick, through their coarse and permanent interference, relying on Haitians, unable to transcend their 'sad passions': the comedy of coups d'état (September 17, 1988, June 20, 1988, September 30, 1991), the waltz of fraudulent and manipulated elections (2010 – 2011), the emptiness of para-constitutional combinations and discredited or transitional governments, devoid of credibility and effectiveness. Ultimately, behind the apparent establishment of a democratic experience, aside from two full mandates of René Préval under UN protection, instability has taken full power. This consideration can furthermore reinforce the culturalist hypothesis, Haiti, accustomed to despotic regimes, having known only brief interludes of liberal or public salvation governments.
