Between July 4 and July 9, 2026, the municipality suffered a new wave of violence, with gang attacks in several localities resulting in at least 61 deaths among residents and the displacement of at least 5,800 people, according to the report from UN experts submitted to the Security Council on September 3, 2026.
The report has indexed the former deputy Antoine, who denied it while the experts maintained their conclusions. “Political motivations contributed to the destabilization of Kenscoff. The attacks carried out previously in January 2025 aimed to highlight the police's difficulties in ensuring the security of an important residential area and to deliberately provoke chaos in order to influence public opinion in favor of negotiations with the gangs. During the period in question, the municipality of Kenscoff remained at the heart of political and financial issues, with influential actors supporting gangs and other armed groups to control the area,” the report states, which qualifies former deputy Alfredo Antoine as a “gang sponsor.”
