The French ambassador to Haiti, Gautier Lekens, "reminded of France's commitment to the sanction regimes of the United Nations and the European Union and their full enforcement," according to a statement following a meeting with PM Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, after amendments to the electoral decree and the publication of a UN experts' report.

"Following the amendment of the electoral decree and in light of the UN experts' report, the Ambassador reaffirmed France's commitment to a credible electoral process, allowing Haitians to freely choose their leaders, with candidates meeting the integrity requirements essential for a free and democratic election," the statement, dated October 8, 2026, reads.
