For several weeks now, various streets in Port-au-Prince have been the stage for a series of initiatives from the interim municipal cartel appointed in February 2026. In certain key areas of the capital, municipal agents, equipped with heavy machinery, are hard at work to sanitize this commune that resembles a war zone. The road service also seems to have been put back into operation in areas previously neglected due to the security situation. In many neighborhoods, streetlights have also been installed. This is a way to address the absence of electricity and ensure a minimum level of safety for the residents of what remains of the Haitian capital.
Behind these works, the interim mayor praises the support from the government, which provides regular assistance to the municipal administration. But there is also support from the population. "It's not just the municipal commission. It's the entire population that has contributed to give the commune this small glimmer of hope," stated Yves Andrel Salomon, president of the municipal commission of the capital.
