The CEP has published a new electoral decree. The first round scheduled for December 13, 2026 is effectively postponed, and there are meetings regarding a new electoral calendar. In this regard, "Haiti should not rush to set a new electoral date. The priority should be given to a credible and secure electoral process (...) Holding elections too hastily, under the current conditions, could lead to increased instability in Haiti," reads a political analysis note from Chatham House.
According to a survey conducted at its request by "Q-Q Research Consultants, nearly 90% of respondents believed that elections were important for the future of the country, and 82% felt they should take place before the end of 2027", it is stated in this political analysis note, estimating that "the intervention of the CEP represents an opportunity to shift focus, previously concentrated on adhering to an arbitrary deadline, towards establishing a realistic electoral timetable and process."
