The municipality is preparing to bid farewell to this former mayor who dedicated several years to its service. Some activities are planned to honor his memory. Educational institutions will notably present a commemorative plaque at the town hall in tribute to the former mayor.

A wake and a march between the residence of the deceased and the town hall are scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2026. A tribute ceremony will be held the following day at the Kinam hotel, from 3 P.M. to 5 P.M.

“Given the large number of people we expect to receive, tents will be set up on a nearby football field to accommodate the guests and inhabitants. Screens and televisions will also be provided to allow the public to follow the funeral ceremony, which will take place outdoors,” explained Jean Max Duvivier.

According to the deputy mayor, the National Federation of Mayors of Haiti (FENAMH), the town hall of Pétion-Ville, and the Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT), led by Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé, are supporting the preparations alongside the town hall of Kenscoff and the family of the deceased. Jean Max Duvivier praised the ministry's contribution and thanked them for their support.

Several dozen schools in Kenscoff closed their doors on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, to participate in a march in honor of the former mayor of the municipality, who passed away on October 9, 2026. Students, teachers, and school officials mobilized to honor his memory and acknowledge the services he provided to the community.

Dressed in their uniforms, students from various institutions walked the streets of the municipality for a final tribute to the former mayor. At the end, balloons were also released as a sign of farewell, in a moment of reflection marked by the involvement of the educational community.

A Man Devoted to Kenscoff All His Life

Pastor, administrator, and former mayor, Jean Massillon dedicated his life to Kenscoff, according to Jean Max Duvivier. The latter, who collaborated with him for about six years, described him as a man deeply attached to his town.

“He was a good collaborator. He served his municipality since its birth, did all his studies there, got married there, and carried out his pastoral ministry, eventually becoming its first citizen. Serving his hometown was for him a sacred duty,” he testified during his intervention on the Panel Magik show.

Jean Massillon offered his services to municipal management as an administrator for about 14 years, at various levels. Appointed interim executive agent of Kenscoff in July 2020, under the presidency of Jovenel Moïse, he continued his commitment to the administration of municipal affairs.

Since January 2025, he particularly mobilized in response to attacks by armed groups threatening Kenscoff. He called on central authorities to strengthen security and regain control of occupied areas. In doing so, he sought to limit the expansion of gang violence and promote the return of peace.

“He was always ready to defend his town, tooth and nail,” emphasized Jean Max Duvivier, recalling the determination of his former colleague. According to him, Jean Massillon remained committed to his municipality until his last breath.

Jean Max Duvivier also confirmed that the deceased suffered from high blood pressure but did not regularly take his medication. He described him as his mentor, whom he had known for nearly 40 years, before extending his sympathies to the family of the deceased and to the population.

Jean Massillon passed away on October 9, after experiencing health issues while heading to Bois-d’Avril. The municipal administration declared six days of mourning, from October 19 to 24, 2026, to allow the population and institutions to pay tribute to him. The town hall also ordered the lowering of the municipal flag and invited the people of Kenscoff to respect this period of mourning.
