Haitian jurists launched the Haitian Academy of Intellectual Property on October 22, 2026, at the Karibe hotel, a space for training and research aimed at those who create, invent, and undertake. The ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of Commerce and Industry, James Monazard, and the Minister of Culture and Communication, Emmanuel Ménard. Both called for the modernization of a legal framework that technologies have outstripped.<\/p>

“We all have a background in intellectual property, and we felt it was necessary to take action,” explains Émilie Prophète-Milce, co-founder of the Academy. The former Minister of Culture and Communication, who led the Haitian Copyright Office for twelve years, refuses to reduce intellectual property to administrative formalities. “A creator must be able to protect their work, understand their contract, and negotiate the terms of exploitation of their works,” she insists. The Academy will offer training on copyright and industrial property: trademarks, patents, designs, and models. It also aims to gather magistrates, lawyers, entrepreneurs, artists, researchers, journalists, and students.<\/p>
