Founded in 1958, Radio Lumière has made its mark in the history of Haitian broadcasting, far beyond its evangelical mission. Over the years, it has also established itself through its information and education work, as well as its closeness to communities for the promotion of culture. Invited to Panel Magik on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, its former general director, Sony Lamarre Joseph, traces the history and revisits the philosophy of Radio Lumière on the occasion of the centenary of broadcasting in Haiti.
Long before radio became a daily companion for thousands of Haitians, Radio Lumière was already making its voice heard. Initiated by American missionary David N. Hartt, an experienced engineer in the field of broadcasting, the station was born in Les Cayes in December 1958, within the Southern Baptist Evangelical Mission of Haiti (MEBSH). It was inaugurated on February 20, 1959.
