Out of the 100 years of radio in Haiti, Radio Métropole has already crossed more than half, namely 56 years. The media is currently led by Richard Widmaier, the eldest son of Herby Widmaier, its founder. The family has been a pioneer in broadcasting in Haiti for at least 90 years. However, the longevity of Radio Métropole seems to find its source, at least in part, in the ability of its leaders to surround themselves with talent. On Thursday, October 29, 2026, the CEO of the soon-to-be sixty-year-old radio station had no shortage of praise for the great names in radio who have proven themselves within his media.

It is with the mention of his father's contribution that Richard Widmaier begins his overview of these great names who have made the glory days of the history of broadcasting in Haiti. "My father knew what he was doing. He came up with different programs." This is how the CEO of Radio Métropole describes his father, who, through his experience and media knowledge, launched the station in 1970 at full throttle, having previously left Radio Haïti Inter, which he co-founded with journalist Jean Léopold Dominique, amidst conflict.
