Following the European Union, it is now Canada’s turn to position itself on the electoral process initiated in Haiti. On Friday, October 30, Global Affairs Canada, the equivalent of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issued a statement on "the integrity of the electoral process in Haiti and sanctions." In this text, Canada argues that it is essential to maintain the highest standards of integrity and transparency to preserve public trust.
"Canada is concerned that some individuals currently subject to international sanctions for contributing to violence, corruption, human rights violations, or destabilization of Haiti are seeking to run for office in the upcoming elections. Such candidacies risk undermining public trust in the electoral process and compromising the goal of restoring legitimate, accountable, and democratic governance.
