Officially, the Transitional Presidential Council has yet to make a statement regarding the "charged" status of three of its members. Despite pressure from both national and international stakeholders, the CPT members remain united. Louis Gérald Gilles, Emmanuel Vertilaire, and Smith Augustin continue to function alongside the other six members of the Council almost normally.
Summoned to appear, each of the implicated counselors is shielding behind their self-proclaimed status as President of the Republic to avoid appearing before the investigating office. First, Louis Gérald Gilles decided to challenge all the investigating offices of the Port-au-Prince Court of First Instance, citing “legitimate suspicion” against all magistrates, particularly Benjamin Félismé, who is handling the case in which he is charged.
