Since the announcement of the deadline given to medical faculties in Haiti to maintain their international accreditations, and the announcement of Haiti's withdrawal from certain pathways to access the American and Canadian healthcare system, the concerned medical faculties have not yet reacted. "Fighting to maintain international accreditation is not synonymous with encouraging departure, it rather gives an idea of the level of standardization of Haitian medicine that needs to be improved at the pace of scientific progress," noted a MSPP official in anticipation of the creation of this working group.
Indeed, in a note released to the public on Monday, April 3, 2023, MENFP and MSPP announced the creation of a working group on the governance of health sciences educational institutions and the issue of accreditation of medical faculties in Haiti. "This is for MENFP and MSPP to respond, on the one hand, to the challenges of governance and modernization of higher education institutions in health sciences, and on the other hand, to ensure the monitoring of the entry into force in Haiti of the regional convention on the recognition of studies, titles and diplomas of higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean, since October 23, 2022, and the entry into force of the UNESCO Global Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications in Higher Education on March 5, 2023," the note co-signed by the two ministries stated.
