Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has called on the international community to "act quickly to alleviate the suffering of a population torn apart by tragedy" and highlighted the paralysis of the United Nations Security Council in his speech at the G7 working session in Japan on May 21, 2023.
"In Haiti, we must act quickly to alleviate the suffering of a population torn apart by tragedy. The plight faced by the Haitian people is the result of decades of indifference to the country's real needs. For years, Brazil has maintained that Haiti's problem is not only a security problem but primarily a development problem," stated the Brazilian President in a speech titled "Towards a Peaceful, Stable, and Prosperous World," accessed by Le Nouvelliste on the website https://www.gov.br/planalto/en/latest-news/speech-by-president-lula-at-session-8-of-g7 from the Brazilian government. "The gap between these challenges and the global governance at our disposal continues to widen. The lack of reform in the Security Council is the crucial element of the problem.
