Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly, announced during a ministerial meeting on Thursday, June 15, 2023, with key partners to discuss the security situation in Haiti, that her country will provide $10 million in funding to the United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) multidonor fund for security in Haiti. The funding will also facilitate the establishment of a security coordination cell.
According to a press release from the Canadian government, "Canada will allocate $10 million to the Multidonor Basket Fund of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for security in Haiti, and an additional $3 million to the project combating corruption led by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. These contributions will enhance the capacity of the Haitian National Police (PNH) to address immediate security needs and undertake long-term capacity-building activities. They will also bolster Haiti's efforts in combating corruption and impunity."
