"After numerous protests, Canada felt compelled to emerge from its indifference and take action in response to the dramatic reality Haiti is facing. However, what Canada has proposed is not a viable solution. If Canada doubts its own ability to ensure its own security on the ground, how can we take its proposal seriously in the current state of affairs in Haiti?" complained Pastor Wilner Cayo, president of the organization Standing for Dignity. He insists on seeking sustainable solutions from Canada.
"We want a lasting solution that embraces participatory, non-paternalistic principles. We have competent and honest individuals in the diaspora and in Haiti who genuinely care about Haiti's best interests. These individuals must be part of the discussion to find a sustainable solution. We need to be actively involved in the solution, its execution, and its oversight. We are tired of cosmetic approaches. Let's seriously address the root causes of the problem to lift Haiti out of this quagmire," he suggested.
