The main associations in the US apparel sector have called for the immediate and long-term renewal of the Hope/Haiti Economic Lift Program (HELP) Act, a crucial law for investments in this sector, before it expires in 2025, as reported by Le Nouvelliste on Monday, July 10, 2023.

"We are writing to urge your support for the immediate and long-term reauthorization of the Haitian Hemispheric Opportunity through Partnership Encouragement (HOPE) and HELP Acts, collectively known as HOPE/HELP," stated a letter dated July 10th from the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA), National Retail Federation (NRF), Outdoor Industry Association (OIA), Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), and U.S. Fashion Industry Association (USFIA). "We understand that you are carefully considering the renewal of other preference programs, including the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), two initiatives we strongly support. We urgently request that action be taken as soon as possible to renew these trade programs, as well as HOPE/HELP," according to the letter addressed to the Chairs of the budget and finance committees in the United States Congress and Senate.
