Situated in northeastern Haiti, the CODEVI industrial park has been instrumental in creating 20,000 jobs since its inception in 2002. "Today, these jobs are in jeopardy as a small group of individuals aims to close down CODEVI," disclosed Fernando Capellan in an interview with Le Nouvelliste on Monday, July 10, 2023.
Following the incidents that resulted in the tragic deaths of two employees and the vandalism of certain park facilities, normalcy has yet to be restored. Employees continue to face threats and even physical assaults with stones. Attendance rates have fluctuated, reaching only 50% on some days. However, this Monday, all employees showed up for work. The situation remains precarious, and the duration of these challenges is uncertain. Over the past three weeks, processed products have been unable to be delivered to customers, explained the head of Grupo M in great detail. "We have suffered a significant loss of credibility with our clients," Capellan expressed his concerns, fearing that CODEVI may face a situation similar to that of Caracol.
