"The adoption by the United States House of Representatives of the H.R. 1684, the Haiti Criminal Collusion Transparency Act, underscores the unwavering commitment of the United States to hold corrupt Haitian political and economic elites accountable for their role in supporting destabilizing gang activities in Haiti," stated a joint declaration by Representatives Gregory W. Meeks and Michael McCaul, respectively a member and chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Maria Salazar, chair of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, and Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick.

"The adoption today by the bipartisan House of Representatives of the H.R. 1684 highlights the unwavering commitment of the United States to hold corrupt Haitian political and economic elites accountable for their role in supporting destabilizing gang activities in Haiti. The pervasive gang violence has exacerbated the humanitarian and security crises devastating the Haitian people. In the political insecurity following the assassination of President Moïse, Haitian criminals sought to profit from chaos, supporting gangs to enrich themselves and claim more power," read the joint statement.
