There's been something of a lull in kidnapping cases over the past two months. The most recent case to hit the headlines was the kidnapping of Dr Jacques Boncy, Director of the National Public Health Laboratory. In less than two years, more than fifty doctors have been kidnapped, prompting medical associations to raise their voices against this alarming trend that seemed to target healthcare professionals.
On July 24th, Dr. Reynold Grand Pierre, the director of family health at the Ministry of Public Health and Population, fell victim to abduction, as reported by the Haitian Medical Association. "With indignation and dismay, the Haitian Medical Association has learned about the kidnapping of Dr. Reynold Grand Pierre, which occurred last Saturday in the Tabarre area," the association announced in a statement.
