As of June 6, 2023, the World Bank has disbursed $43.1 million, which constitutes 23% of the committed $189 million, in response to the aftermath of the earthquake that struck Haiti's Deep South region. Laurent Msellati, the World Bank's representative in Haiti, disclosed this information to Le Nouvelliste.
"Our swift response to the earthquake commenced immediately after the disaster, prompted by the government's request. The World Bank, in collaboration with development partners, swiftly conducted an assessment of post-catastrophe needs to gauge the extent of the damage and chart a path towards recovery. During a donors' conference in Port-au-Prince in February 2022, the World Bank pledged to provide $189 million, including $150 million from the International Development Association Crisis Response Window (CRW), in addition to previously allocated funds for Haiti. However, as of June 6, 2023, the World Bank's total disbursement for the 'Integrated Recovery Plan for the Southern Peninsula (IRPSP)' has reached approximately $43.1 million, reflecting a disbursement rate of 23%, falling slightly short of the targeted 30% for the program's inaugural year of implementation," affirmed Msellati.
