In the third quarter of the fiscal year 2022-2023, the business climate was characterized, during the first two months (April and May 2023), by a slight easing of the security situation and an improvement in the availability of petroleum products. This contributed to a relatively favorable development in economic activity, which had contracted by 2.9% during the first half of this fiscal year, as indicated in the monetary policy note for the third quarter by the BRH (Banque de la République d'Haïti).
However, in several regions of the country, commercial and industrial activities continue to suffer from problems in the supply chain of markets. In these conditions, employment in the manufacturing sector, particularly in textile subcontracting, declined by 0.9% in May compared to March 2023, totaling 43,280 positions, its lowest level since October 2022.
