After declaring earlier in the week that he intends to organize elections in the country with or without a general political consensus, Prime Minister Ariel Henry visited the offices of the Provisional Electoral Council in Pétion-Ville on Friday, September 29. Ariel Henry, who met with the CEP officials, expressed his intention to organize elections as soon as possible, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.
Political negotiations to find a consensus to the crisis have reached an impasse. Opposition members demand the resignation of the Prime Minister be among the topics for discussion on the negotiation agenda, while supporters of Ariel Henry involved in the talks oppose it. Caricom emissaries, who have been mediating between the stakeholders for several months, have been unable to convince the parties of the urgency of reaching even a minimal agreement.
