Minister of National Education and Vocational Training Nesmy Manigat is taking part in the first global summit on school feeding in Paris. While a large number of Haitian children benefit from school canteens, the majority of enrolled children are not yet reached. According to available data, the National School Canteen Program (PNCS), an actor, manager, and regulator of the school feeding sub-sector for the MENFP, reaches a large number of beneficiaries, 2,809,000 students from 2019 to 2023, through partners including the World Food Programme. With new funding from the Global Partnership for Education, the Inter-American Development Bank... authorities hope to increase the number of schoolchildren benefiting from the school canteen.
"I had the opportunity to be a panelist at this first global summit of the Coalition co-chaired by three countries, France, Finland, and Brazil, recently with President Lula. Haiti had the privilege this time to talk not only about its multiple problems, but especially about its new national policy and strategy for school feeding, which prioritizes local products in the canteen. This advocacy that MENFP has been working on for some time aims at better financing the expansion of coverage, mainly for preschool students up to the end of compulsory schooling, that is, up to the 9th fundamental year. 'An empty sack cannot stand, an empty sack cannot learn,' " Minister Manigat indicated to Le Nouvelliste at the end of the first day of the summit.
