The technical monitoring and evaluation mission of a project from the Ministry of National Education, which began in January 2022, focusing on governance, institutional strengthening, access to public elementary education, and the quality assurance system in public elementary schools in the Grand Nord region, participated in the workshop on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at the sixth floor of the IDB building in Washington. After three days of lively discussions about the past, present, and, most importantly, the future of the sector, the various stakeholders left satisfied.

The current urgency involves students who have not yet returned to school three months after the official start of classes. The risk of dropping out remains high due to several schools still occupied by displaced people driven from their homes by armed gangs. In response to this situation, the IDB, through its education specialist Marie Evane Tamagnan, expressed interest in financing the relocation of around ten schools until their premises are vacated. Other partners, including UNICEF, are also prepared to pay for spaces to allow 20,000 students to start their school year, three months after the official start of classes.
